On the afternoon of August 9, 2023, Mr. Marc Evans Knapper – the United States Ambassador to Vietnam, along with the delegation, visited and worked at the Trung Nam EMS factory and Da Nang IT Park (DITP)

About The US Ambassador – Mr. Marc E. Knapper

Marc E. Knapper is a senior diplomatic officer of the United States Department of State, and Ambassador to Vietnam.

Previously, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Korea and Japan from August 2018 to July 2021. Prior to this position, he was Charge d’Affaires in Seoul from 2017 to 2018 and Deputy Ambassador to Seoul from 2015 to 2016. Beside that, his previous positions include Director of Indian Affairs, Director of Japanese Affairs and Other locations are in Seoul, Baghdad, Tokyo, and Hanoi.

Opening A New Opportunity For Trung Nam

During the meeting, both sides agreed to share a common vision to facilitate the exchange of trade opportunities and investment cooperation by U.S. businesses into the DITP, particularly in the electronics industry, information technology, and potential projects of Trungnam Group.

After the working session, the delegation visited the Trung Nam EMS electronics factory, Danang IT Park, and the Golden Hills ecological urban area.

Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Besides, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and the United States is very strong. Both countries are making continuous efforts to expand cooperation in many areas, including trade, investment, security and climate change.

At the same time, the main topics were discussions focusing on production, education and supply chains – important factors contributing to sustainable development and deepening the relationship between the two countries.

Cooperation in the Semiconductor Industry

One of the key highlights in Vietnam-U.S. cooperation is the promotion of the semiconductor industry. The two countries have signed an agreement to support Vietnam’s deeper integration into the global semiconductor supply chain. Specifically:

  • A joint working group on semiconductor investment and technology cooperation has been established.
  • Both countries will collaborate on workforce development in information technology, helping to enhance the capacity of manufacturing plants in Vietnam, particularly in the central region.
  • The United States is committed to assisting Vietnam in technology development and workforce training for the future.
